Amboseli National Park
Amboseli National Park is located in Loitoktok District, Rift Valley Province of Kenya. The park is 39,206 hectares (392 km2; 151 sq. mi) in size at the core of an 8,000 square kilometres (3,100 sq. mi) ecosystem that spreads across the Kenya-Tanzania border. The park is famous for being the best place in Africa to get close to free-ranging elephants among other wildlife species. Other attraction of the park includes opportunities to meet the Maasai people and also offers spectacular views of Mount Kilimanjaro, the highest free-standing mountain in the world.
In Amboseli’s case it is big skies and far horizons combined with swampy springs and dry and dusty earth trampled by hundreds of animals. Amboseli has an endless underground water supply filtered through thousands of feet of volcanic rock from Kilimanjaro’s ice cap, which funnel into two clear water springs in the heart of the park.
However, the climatic pendulum can swing from drought to flood, and in the early 1990’s ceaseless rain changed Amboseli into a swamp. A few years later the rains failed and the grass-covered plains turned to dust.
Day 2: Full day in Amboseli including morning and afternoon game drives in the park. Overnight FB Kibo Safari Camp/ Serena Amboseli Lodge.
Day 3: After breakfast the Safari continues to Tsavo East. The estimated driving time is 5 hours. Arrival at Ashnil Aruba Lodge in Tsavo East early afternoon, in time for lunch. Afternoon at leisure before late afternoon game drive in Tsavo East.
Dinner and overnight Ashnil Aruba Lodge.
Day 4: Full day in Tsavo East with morning and afternoon game drives. Note that it is possible to bring picnic lunch in order to remain in the park all day. Otherwise drive back to Ashnil Aruba Lodge for lunch and a few hours at leisure before doing the afternoon game drive. Overnight Ashnil Aruba FB.
Tsavo East National Park is one of the world’s largest game reserves, providing undeveloped wilderness homes to vast numbers of animals. Famous are the Tsavo lions, a population of lions, where adult males often lack manes entirely. In total there are about 675 lions in the Amboseli-Tsavo ecosystem.
Day 5: Full day in Tsavo East. The park is so huge that it is worthwhile adding another day to the itinerary. Game drives as per clients wish. Overnight Ashnil Aruba Camp FB.
