BEST TIME TO VISIT
WELCOME TO Zambia
|Home to the mighty Victoria Falls, one of the Seven Natural Wonders of the World, Zambia is a spectacular land of mighty rivers, waterfalls, high plateaus and stunning biodiversity.
Although it is a landlocked country, water plays a central role in shaping Zambia’s physical character. In the south, a number of major rivers flow through the Zambezi basin while in the north, the Congo river rises and the country also includes part of Lake Tanganiyika. As well as Victoria Falls there are 17 other falls spread around the country.
Such an abundance of water, along with a range of different ecosystems means that Zambia is blessed with a bountiful variety of animal and plant life. All of Africa’s mega fauna can be seen here including lions, elephants, buffalo, leopard and rhino. Other large animals to look out for on Zambian safaris are hippos, hyenas, zebra and blue wildebeest.
The country has no fewer than 20 national parks, the main ones being Kafue, South Luangwa and Lower Zambezi. Each of these parks is rightly famed for the spectacular experiences that they offer. This is authentic African safari in an unspoiled setting and almost entirely devoid of any sign of commercialism. So much so that many of the national parks are unfenced.
No visit to Zambia is complete without taking time to appreciate the incredible variety and proliferation of bird life. The country can boast a staggering 770 species. Little wonder then that the national emblem is the African fish eagle. Lochinver National Park is especially noted for its birding safaris and visitors can look forward to sighting flamingos, secretary birds and kingfishers amongst more than 400 species.
Zambia is fast becoming one of the must-visit destinations for African safari and with its long list of attractions it’s not difficult to see why.
