BEST TIME TO VISIT
WELCOME TO Tanzania
|Great plains resounding to the thunderous sounds of millions of hooves, the ice and snow of Mount Kilimanjaro, the world’s largest volcanic crater teeming with wildlife and the sheer expanse of Africa’s largest lake are just some of the sights and sounds available in this land of extremes. Not surprisingly then, Tanzania offers safari on a scale and breadth unmatched anywhere else.
Tanzanian wildlife is extraordinary and its protection has resulted in the creation of 17 national parks, as well as more than 20 reserves and conservation areas, all offering excellent game viewing.
In the country’s most famous national park – the Serengeti – visitors can witness the largest migration of land mammals seen anywhere in the world. Each year, almost 2 million wildebeest, zebras and Thomson’s gazelle begin a gigantic clockwise migration around the Serengeti region in search of fresh pastures produced by seasonal rains. Thousands of large predators track the journey too including lions, leopard and hyenas. Truly, this is one of Africa’s ultimate safari experiences.
There is more though, much more. At the Ngorongoro Conservation Area to the southeast of Serengeti, visitors can take in the vast natural enclosure of the famed Ngorongoro crater, home to thousands of large mammals including the rare black rhinoceros. The crater is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and has been voted one of the Seven Natural Wonders of Africa.
To the South, Tarangire NP contains over 400 bird species within its landscape of grassland and enormous baobab trees. And further south, in central Tanzania lies the country’s largest national park – Ruaha. It’s classic, acacia-dotted savannah is home to over 10,000 elephants as well as hippos, leopards, lions and antelope.
Tanzanians are well-known for their friendliness and hospitality and this is amply reflected in the high quality of luxury accommodation, tours, drivers and guides available. What else but excellence would one expect in this land of superlatives ?
