BEST TIME TO VISIT
WELCOME TO South Africa
|Nothing can prepare the first time visitor for South Africa’s mesmerising beauty and its incredible diversity of landscapes and wildlife.
From the dry sands of the Kalahari in the Northwest, to the occasionally snowy peaks of the Drakensburg range in the East, or the lush hills and grasslands of the Lowveld in the Northeast to the cliffs and beaches of the Western Cape, this is a nation that appears to have it all.
Nowhere is the richness of South Africa’s wildlife more evident than in the world-famous Kruger National Park. Here, set against the dramatic backdrop of the Lebombo mountains, visitors may sight all of Africa’s Big Five (lion, leopard, elephant, buffalo and rhinoceros) as well as over 250 resident bird species and over 100 reptile species – including 3000 crocodiles. Add in expert guides and superb luxury accommodation and you have an unmissable safari experience.
On the other side of this huge country, travellers can enjoy the pristine beaches and astounding cliff-top scenery of the renowned Garden Route – a 300km stretch of coastline running between Mossel Bay and Storms River. The best way to enjoy this exquisite coastal paradise is by taking a tour over several days. Highlights along the way include hiking trails, vineyards, nature reserves and marine safaris where you can see turtles, penguins and various types of whale.
Most Garden Route tours either start or finish at Cape Town, South Africa’s vibrant cultural hub. Without doubt one of the world’s most iconic cities, it’s impossible to be bored here. Superb restaurants, museums and galleries and pulsating night-life, not to mention a plethora of parks and outdoor pursuits make this perhaps Africa’s most outstanding city. And of course all of this is set against the simply awe-inspiring Table mountain.
A visit to the “Rainbow Nation” is a visit to many nations – each one an enduring delight.
