WELCOME TO Morocco

East meets west, and ancient meets modern in Morocco’s heady mix of cultures, history and dramatic landscapes.

When one considers this country’s unique array of attractions – including superb beach resorts, vibrant, bustling cities, venerable sites of historical interest and adventure activities in impressive mountain ranges – it is no surprise that Morocco is Africa’s top visitor destination.

The literal top attraction for many is a trip to the Atlas Mountains. The range stretches for over 1600 miles across Morocco, taking in parts of neighbouring Algeria and Tunisia and including among it’s many snow-capped peaks the highest mountain in North Africa – Toubkal (13,671ft). Activities for the adventurous include mountaineering, hiking and a range of winter sports – most notably skiing, but also snowboarding and sledging for families. It is typical of Morocco’s amazing geographical variety that one can ski only 100km or so from the sand dunes of the Sahara desert !

The Atlas range is also home to the indigenous Berber people and their traditional towns and villages, with their distinctive red adobe buildings are dotted throughout the region. Here you can experience Berber culture – particularly language, food and music – in a form largely untouched by outside influences. Be prepared for a very warm welcome as Berber people are renowned for their hospitality.

The principal city of the Atlas region is Marrakech and it’s a true delight. The historic centre of the city is the Medina, a glory of red sandstone alleyways and bustling souks (markets), it’s an exotic explosion of sights, sounds and colour. The city also boasts numerous gardens, historically important mosques, fine restaurants and luxury, high-end hotels as well as amazing street entertainment.

Morocco is a traveller’s dream. From the sandy Sahara to the glitz of the Atlantic and Mediterranean resorts, via high mountains and ancient walled cities it is ever-changing and yet never-changing.
