WELCOME TO Botswana
Covering an area more than double that of the United Kingdom, but with only a thirtieth of that country’s population, Botswana is a land of stunning contrasts. Desert, grassland, river deltas and savannas can all be found within its diverse environs. Its spectacular wildlife and abundance of hides, lodges and camps mean that it can make a strong claim to offering Africa’s greatest luxury safari experience
A tradition of stable democracy and abundant natural mineral resources have helped to make Botswana one of the most prosperous and peaceful countries in sub-Saharan Africa. This is a destination for the discerning traveller – where mass tourism is eschewed in favour of the personal and the unforgettable.
Chief among the country’s attractions is its rich wildlife. A visitor to Botswana can expect to see any or all of the big five – lions, rhinos, buffalo, leopards and famously, elephants. The country has Africa’s largest population of elephants and this is no accident – Botswana is committed to protecting its biodiversity. There are over 150 mammal species and hundreds of species of birds.
This commitment has resulted in a plenitude of national parks, game reserves and protected areas. From the vast, dry expanse of the Central Kalahari Game Reserve, to the wondrous wetlands of the Okavango Delta in the North, almost 40% of the country is given over to protected wilderness. Other highlights include the Chobe National Park in the Northeast where visitors can travel up the Chobe river and get close to crocodiles, herds of buffalo and giraffes.
Add in the friendliness and warmth of the people, night skies glittering with stars, exquisite sunsets over unspoiled landscapes and you can be sure that a trip to beautiful Botswana is one that will be rewarded with unforgettable experiences.
