Game Reserve

The Pristine Private Game Reserve

Located in the wetlands between the Linyanti Marshes and Okavango Delta, the Selinda Game Reserve offers a select adventure for travellers who wish to enjoy an intimate, upmarket safari experience.

Covering over 1300 square kms, Selinda is privately owned and is dedicated to conservation and wildlife photography. The small number of camps in the reserve strive to achieve as light an environmental footprint as they possibly can.

The main geographical feature of the reserve is the Selinda Spillway – an ancient river channel that undergoes erratic wet and dry cycles. The last dry cycle, lasting over 30 years, ended in 2009 when rains from the Angolan highlands once again flowed across the floodplain transforming the landscape.

This is a region blessed with large numbers of big game animals but with only a smattering of visitors at any given time. Wildlife density is highest during the dry season from June to November when great herds of zebra, buffalo and elephants can be witnessed. Selinda is also noted for its populations of roan and sable antelopes. Other highlights include cheetah in the northern savannah and the reserves famous hippo-hunting lions.

Being privately owned allows Selinda to offer some unique activities to visitors. These include night safaris by 4WD vehicle when many animals seldom visible during the day – such as servals and aardvarks – are active. Canoe safaris over several days are another special activity available here and are often the most memorable aspect of many people’s adventure.

The Selinda Game Reserve offers a luxurious, romantic version of African safari in a timeless setting and, for those fortunate enough to visit, lingers long in the memory.
